Dallas: Deep Ellum
For a Saturday in late January, the weather was unseasonably warm - sunny, 70+ degrees and clear skies. I decided to spend a few hours of my afternoon exploring one of the neighborhoods in East Dallas. Deep Ellum is/was known for its music - particularly jazz and blues. In the early 90s the area fell into neglect, with many shops shuttering their windows. However, it's slowly starting to make a comeback as a fun weekend destination for shopping, dining and entertainment. The city's DART public train line even extended their line through the neighborhood with sleek new station stops.

Dang! You made railroad tracks look awesome. Didn't think that could be done.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very nice set of shots, man. Is that robot friends with WALL-E? They look like they'd get along.
Thanks man! Getting an occasional comment is a real stroke to my ego.
ReplyDeleteThe robot sculptures are pretty cool - they are called "The Traveling Man" and there are 3 of them. One is standing up playing with baby chicks, one is sitting and playing guitar and the third i buried up to his head in dirt. Kinda cool.
How can the sky be so blue in your photos? Awesome!
ReplyDeleteHey Sheri! Believe it or not, I didn't Photoshop the sky. The key to getting the deep blue sky includes the following:
ReplyDelete1)shooting on a clear, cloudless day
2)shooting with your back to the sun, usually after 2pm and shoot to the east
3)use a polarizer filter on your camera if using a SLR camera
You'll notice that the one robot photo above with the buildings in the background doesn't have the deep blue sky - that's because I was shooting into the sun. The sun was hidden behind the robot's head.
I love the street sign one.
